Obituary of Anne Taylor Frey

The Reynolds Press, 26 April 1912, pg 4

FREY – James Taylor and Elspet Malcolm were married in Scotland on May 7, 1836. In June that year they came to Quebec, Canada, where on Mar 8, 1837, a daughter Anne, was born. At the age of two years the family moved to Lockland, Ohio, where the mother died. The father remarried and came in July 1842 to Rock Island county. Here Anne grew to womenhood and on June 8, 1858, was married to John R. Frey. In 1863 Mr Frey and his family moved to Hardin county, Iowa. The trip was made in a prairie schooner drawn by oxen and lasted 10 days. On Oct. 29, 1863, Mr and Mrs Frey and their two sons located near Eldora, Iowa, where three more children were born to them. Suffering all the privations of pioneer life, strict economy and hard labor at last brought substantial rewards. In 1885 a commodious home was built in which the family lived till 1895 when they moved into Eldora and where they built a palatial residence in 1896.  The family circle was broken by the death of the father on Sept. 30, 1904. On Jan. 10, 1907, the youngest son, James T., was suddenly removed by death. From this shock the mother never fully recovered. The surviving children are Charles C. of Eldora, Leroy T. of Clarion and Mary E. Babcock and Emma F. Pemberton of Greenfield, Iowa. Mrs Frey went to Greenfield last fall to visit her daughters and on Oct 22 was stricken with paralysis. A relapse occurred on Mar. 5 and on Apr. 2 she quietly past into eternal rest. Early in life she united with the Presbyterian church, but later became a Baptist and remained loyal to that faith to the end. The funeral was held in Greenfield Apr. 4 at the home of her son in law, Dr Babcock. Interment was made at Eldora.
